Leeds have found themselves at the centre of various transfer stories this summer regarding some of their key men.
Kemar Roofe has been linked with both Crystal Palace and Brighton whilst Kalvin Phillips has been attracting the eyes of Aston Villa and Wolves.
Yet, Mateusz Klich has also been the subject of interest from the Premier League with Burnley monitoring.
However, holding onto him has suddenly become even more vital.
On the chalkboard
On Wednesday it was confirmed that Leeds’ top scorer from last season would miss the opening few weeks of the new campaign after suffering an ankle injury.
Roofe picked up the problem in a friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers, an incident that will now come as a huge blow given their lack of strikers.
But in turn, it has led to someone of arguably even greater importance needing to stay.
At the beginning of the month, Klich fielded interest from Sean Dyche and Burnley who were considering the possibility of bringing him to Turf Moor.
But with Roofe’s injury, they simply cannot afford to lose him.
Leeds didn’t exactly lack goals last term as Pablo Hernandez also netted double figures but he was sandwiched by Roofe and Klich.
The Poland international scored ten goals whilst assisting a further nine strikes in the Championship, proving to be one of the best in his position in the league.
Goals were pretty spread out amongst the side in 2018/19, but the fact of the matter is that if they lose Klich after seeing Roofe put on the treatment table, it could spell disaster as far as their start is concerned.
Patrick Bamford is set to be given the burden of scoring the brunt of their goals but he cannot be relied upon alone after missing so much of last season through injury too.
Regardless of the potential need to improve financial fair play, Marcelo Bielsa simply has to keep the 6-foot star in his plans.
