da betobet: Jose Mourinho proved just why he is the wrong man to lead Manchester United in his pre-Everton press conference, by moaning about the lack of depth in his squad once again (according to the Mirror), despite the millions that have been spent during his tenure and the young stars that are at the club.
What did he say?
da betcris: “Against Juventus, I couldn’t give him (Romelu Lukaku) a break, I don’t think (Michael) Carrick can play as a striker, so against Juventus we played with the players that we did.
“If we decided to give a rest to Lukaku and play (Marcus) Rashford, then who plays as a winger?
“We are not in the best moment to try to think about resting players or try to find solutions, the solutions is to use the players we have.”
What did he really mean?
Lukaku has failed to score in the last eight games for United and it almost seemed as though Mourinho wanted to drop the Belgian in the week, but was refusing in order to make a point to the board, who failed to sign his transfer targets in the summer.
The Portuguese boss’ comments will hardly inspire confidence in Lukaku, although it is now clear that he will retain his place for the visit of his former club Everton on Sunday.
No chance for the youngsters
The Red Devils have a long history of producing some of the best talents in world football from their youth system, but under Mourinho there seems to be no opportunities for any of the young attacking players at the club.
Mourinho’s claim that he would have had nobody to play on the wing if Rashford started upfront is laughable. Huge money has been spent on the current United squad, and with Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard out injured, the boss has a perfect chance to bring through some of the young talent.
For example, Dutch wonder-kid Tahith Chong was left as an unused substitute against Juventus despite being the only attacking player on the bench when United were chasing the game. The 18-year-old has netted five times in nine appearances for the youth team this season and deserves to make his first-team debut.
So, United fans, would you like to see Chong make his debut against Everton in the Premier League? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
