da dobrowin: As reported by The Daily Record, Graeme Murty has revealed Rangers’ plans in the January transfer window could take a hit due to no permanent manager being in place.
What’s the story?
da stake casino: By the time January comes around, the Light Blues will have been without a permanent manager mid-season for over two months, with U20s coach Graeme Murty having to take charge of first team affairs with little prospect for long-term planning.
The transfer window could be an important one for the club and while they don’t have massive amounts of money to spend, freshening up the squad in one or two places would be pleasing for supporters.
Now though, Murty has admitted there could be a problem, when asked whether continuing their manager search would mean they miss out on players.
As quoted by The Daily Record, Murty said:
It’s possible. But to be perfectly honest I think we’re buying a bit of trouble if we get focused on it. The squad is as it is at the moment. We’ve identified there are areas we need to strengthen and it’s down to the recruitment group to make sure that those best targets are identified. As or when a new manager comes in they will be addressed at that time, along with the new manager’s targets.
The interim boss also admitted he has little say in what players will or won’t be moved in and out of the club in January, with Director of Football Mark Allen taking charge of the process.
Lack of direction
Not appointing a permanent manager by this stage must be frustrating for supporters and it possibly having a detrimental on their transfer business in January is making a bad situation worse.
At the very least they could give Murty the job until the summer and allow him to have a more hands on role in recruitment. It’s key that players come to the club who want to play for the manager and likewise the manager feels like he can trust a new signing.
They can’t afford to stand still in January or it’s a guarantee they’ll see Celtic ride off into the sunset once again.
