da jogodeouro: Had it not been for Jack Wilshere’s best run of form since his much-fabled breakthrough season, Arsenal fans would have spent the last few weeks itching for Aaron Ramsey to return to action.
da 888casino: The Welshman was in fantastic form earlier in the season before his injury layoff, grabbing three goals and six assists in the top flight, and in addition to bolstering a midfield that otherwise boasts the ill-disciplined Granit Xhaka and the often ineffective Mohamed Elneny, he would have gone some way to remedying Arsenal’s muted attacking threat as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez continually dipped in and out of the first team squad.
An injury to Wilshere saw Ramsey return to the starting XI last night for a trip to Swansea City, but the early signs suggest the 27-year-old needs much longer to recover than expected from his latest bout on the sidelines. Of course, Arsenal were poor as a collective last night, losing 3-1 to the Premier League’s bottom placed side, and results on the road have been a recurring problem this season. But even with that in mind, Ramsey’s performance was exceptionally substandard.
Indeed, despite staying on the pitch for ninety minutes, Ramsey failed to register a single shot on target, a tackle, a created chance, a cross or a successful dribble, while he was dispossessed twice, suffered one unsuccessful touch and committed one foul.
The obvious explanation, once again, is simply that Ramsey’s still regaining his full match sharpness and suddenly found himself thrown in at the deep end against a Swansea City side who have unexpectedly shown vast improvements in recent weeks.
But you have to wonder whether it’s an issue of roles within the midfield as well; playing in a two alongside Granit Xhaka, it was Ramsey’s duty to bomb forward and support the attack – something he did to great effect earlier in the campaign. But on the right of a three-man midfield in a 4-3-3, the 52-cap international seems to struggle to find the same opportunities to get forward and the team doesn’t revolve around his qualities in quite the same way.
Arsene Wenger faces now faces of a headache in trying to get the best out of Ramsey and Wilshere, who seem to suit different systems. How would you solve it?
