da bet7: Arsenal are the latest club to express an interest in Cagliari starlet Nicolo Barella, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.
What’s the word?
Unai Emery has led Arsenal valiantly so far this season, securing nine consecutive victories in all competitions prior to the international break, but there is still work to do in order to develop the Gunners into a side capable of fighting for the highest honours.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Arsenal have joined the likes of Inter and AC Milan in pursuit of 21-year-old Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella after scouts were left impressed by his performances for the Italian side.
Barella earned his senior debut for Italy’s national side against Ukraine last month and is tipped as one of the finest young players within Serie A, though Cagliari are adamant they will not approve a sale in January.
What can he offer?
The likely departure of Aaron Ramsey in 2019 will lead to plenty of speculation regarding potential midfield recruits for Arsenal as they seek a replacement for the Wales international but Barella does not quite fit that mould.

Instead, Barella is a more defensive player that has earned comparisons to Belgium and Inter ace Radja Nainggolan so it is not exactly clear where he would fit into an Arsenal side that already boasts Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Mohamed Elneny and Matteo Guendouzi.
While he is capable of playing in a more advanced role, he is better suited to a position that would see him sit in the centre of the park and that makes it difficult to identify how he would strengthen Arsenal’s first-team ranks, though the links could leave Elneny sweating about his future at the club.
