da jogodeouro: According to reports in The Sun, Everton are close to completing a deal to sign Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney on a free transfer, and Arsenal centre-forward Olivier Giroud could follow him in a £20m move.
da 888casino: The report says that Rooney has been left out of the Red Devils’ squad that is due to head to America on Sunday as part of their pre-season preparations, as he closes in on a move to re-join the club he started his career with.
Even though he will join on a free transfer, the Merseyside outfit will pick up the 31-year-old’s £250,000-a-week wage, according to The Sun, and he will return to Goodison Park 13 years after he left to join United.
Meanwhile, Giroud could join him after falling down the pecking order at the Emirates, and the signing of Alexandre Lacazette on Wednesday may have sealed his exit.
Bringing the duo in would certainly be another statement of intent by the Toffees considering that they have already completed deals for Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Henry Onyekuru this summer, and it could push them closer to making a serious challenge to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Here are three reasons the signings of Rooney and Giroud would lead Everton to the Champions League…
Goals
Everton relied on Romelu Lukaku for goals far too heavily last season – which is one of the reasons they fell short in the race to finish in the top six – and if the Belgian star does leave the club this summer then they will need the potential replacements of Giroud and Rooney – and the rest of the team – to share them out more equally next term.
The duo certainly have the pedigree to do exactly that with 252 Premier League goals and 80 international goals between them, and they have the potential to both find the net 20 times next season.
Quality
While Giroud and Rooney have been known for goalscoring throughout their careers, both players have shown their awareness and potential as creators in recent seasons too.
Considering that the duo often found themselves on the substitutes’ bench last term, they certainly did well to pick up 17 assists in all competitions between them last season.
Rooney has already shown his vision when he has played in a deeper role, while Giroud is brilliant at holding the ball up and linking up with his fellow forwards and midfielders.
Experience
With a significant amount of Premier League, international and European appearances between them, Rooney and Giroud have been there, seen it and done it all and that experience could be vital if Everton are to break into the top four next season.
There may be times when the some of the younger members of the Toffees side need guidance and support if they are holding on to a lead, and having captained United and England, Rooney especially has that know-how to be a huge influence on his teammates.
