da spicy bet: As starts to the season go, it has been pretty bad for under-pressure Leeds United in the Championship.
da 888casino: Under young and ambitious manager Garry Monk, the Whites were supposed to be destined for a season of success, which might see them push for the Championship promotion places come the end of the campaign.
But it’s been about as far from that as you could get with the season now underway and following defeats to QPR, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest, they’re labouring in 21st place in the Championship.
They’ve got a serious shortage of defenders, the goals aren’t going in and off the pitch things are still tricky. So is there any way out for Leeds United this season?
We don’t seem to think so, so here are three reasons why Leeds United could be destined for relegation this season…
Defensive shortages
After captain Sol Bamba unexpectedly left the club the day after the transfer window closed for “personal reasons”, Leeds United are looking seriously short of senior defensive options.
They’ve only got three senior centre-backs on their books: Liam Cooper, Swansea loanee Kyle Bartley and Torino loanee Pontus Jansson, who has no experience of English football.
Should injuries or suspensions take hold, Leeds will be struggling even more than they are now.
Lack of an out-and-out goalscorer
We saw some real quality strikers change hands in the Championship this season but Leeds, despite struggling for goals, didn’t manage to nab one.
Tom Bradshaw, Adam Armstrong, Adam Le Fondre and Lukas Jutkiewicz are all strikers that moved in the summer and whilst some of them aren’t 20-goal-a-season hitmen, they’d have all improved Leeds’ ability to score goals.
If they’re short at the back and short upfront then it’s not looking good at all.
Erratic ownership
May 2016: “I wish I had never bought the club and would like to leave,”- Massimo Cellino.
When you have an owner that doesn’t want to be at the club, supporters that dislike his leadership and no prospective bidders, it’s going to be a downhill struggle.
We’ve seen the likes of Birmingham City, Blackpool and Coventry City all succumb to dastardly football ownership and there’s only so much some supporters can take.
Cellino hasn’t got many fans at Elland Road and with things looking stable on, and off the pitch, Leeds United face the very real prospect of relegation this season.
